It seems like we are going to be waiting an eternity for Mass Effect 5 but in the meantime, this free download is guaranteed to keep you busy and wishing for more.

It has been seven years since we saw the last entry in the Mass Effect series and despite Mass Effect: Andromeda being met with mixed reviews, fans are still eager to see how the story continues.

Check out the launch trailer for Mass Effect 2 below!

First released way back in 2007, the sci-fi RPG series by BioWare has gone on to become of the most-loved of all time so it is no wonder that the wait for Mass Effect 5 is proving difficult.

However, in the meantime, fans can check out Mass Effect: Reborn, a fan-made mod for Homeworld 2 Classic and Remastered which is now part of public domain.

First created back in 2015, the mod for Homeworld 2 has now been remastered and allows players to wage war in space as Alliance, Cerberus, Geth or Reapers.

With updated graphics, the team was happy to share their progress back in 2015.

"We've been working hard thus far and the next release of Mass Effect: Reborn for Homeworld: Remastered is going to be radically different, much more immersive and more than beautiful," they said.

"We really want to give to our community and new players the best Mass Effect experience we can, and we hope we will have your support."

As a result, the remastered version includes 8K textures and new features including a more complex tech tree for players to upgrade.

Despite it being a while since the last entry in the Mass Effect series, fans have recently been returning to the games and uncovering quite a few secrets we missed the first time.

From grim alternate endings to familiar locations, the sci-fi series has a lot still left to discover whilst we wait for the highly-anticipated Mass Effect 5.
