The Mass Effect trilogy is one of the best in the genre but this huge free expansion is about to make the BioWare title even greater.
Released in 2012, Mass Effect 3 marked the end of the original Mass Effect trilogy and firmly cemented the series as one of the best sci-fi RPGs of all time.

With the third instalment sitting at an impressive score of 93 on Metacritic, there is no denying that it is an excellent title by BioWare.

However, this free download brings a whole new expansion’s worth of content to Mass Effect 3.
Expanded Galaxy is a free mod created by Kinkojiro over on Nexus Mods.
First released in 2021 but having received regular updates, the free download adds “new weapons, improved quality of life, overhauled Normandy, new war asset system and much more.”
As well as featuring basic gameplay improvements and new weapons to play around with, what is more exciting is its addition of a Normandy overhaul.

This means the Normandy ship will have a new and evolving crew, be customisable, include a radio, the chance to spend time with your romantic partner and even encourage visits from friends you meet along the way.
As a result, fans agree that Expanded Galaxy is one of the best Mass Effect mods of all time.
The conversation kicked off over on r/masseffect and saw fans of the mod praise its level of detail.
“One of my favorite little features that the Expanded Galaxy Mod adds to Mass Effect 3 is world consistency like Jack being on the Normandy with her students for a bit after Grissom Academy, allowing you to use Jacks as a companion briefly.

EGM is full of these little touches,” the original post read.
Another said: “Yep. EGM is one of my must-haves. It’s that good.
I can’t go back to the vanilla games now: the mods took a great trilogy and made it amazing. EGM is one of them.”
