It’s looking pretty certain that Crystal Dynamics brilliant classic, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, is finally making a comeback as a remastered version.
The original was a huge success and a fan-favourite when it released 25 years ago, and as we near that very important birthday milestone, we could be playing it all over again.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was a big game for many in the late 1990s
It appears that the celebrations started too early though thanks to branding for the game appearing at San Diego Comic Con as logos for the game were spotted around the convention, though they’ve since been removed.

Branding was seen with a QR code and the title ‘Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered.’
We’d recently heard that a graphic novel was coming from Dark Horse Comics titled The Dead Shall Rise which acts as another part of the franchise.
Due out in August, this has us wondering if the remastered duo of games will drop at the same time, giving us some vampiric adventures for the tail end of summer.
Given that the first game of the pair was initially released on 16 August, the signs are there, we’re now just waiting for official confirmation.

Back in 2022, Crystal Dynamics sent out a survey asking which games modern audiences would want to see make a comeback, and Legacy of Kain led the charge.
As someone who played the two games when they first emerged, this has me very excited. The Soul Reaver games featured some amazing character design as well as superb combat and puzzling moments.
Fans of the Uncharted series may recognise the writer and director of the Soul Reaver games, too. Amy Hennig originally led those two games before going on to take up the mantle of Creative Director for the Uncharted games.
We’ll be keeping our eyes open for announcements in the coming days as SDCC rolls on.
