The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver - The Dead Shall Rise officially announced

Legacy of Kain is finally back

The Legacy of Kain series is back, just not in the way fans may have expected. We’re not complaining though.

Despite having a cult following, the Legacy of Kain series has become a series lost to time, with no new releases since 2003.

Check out Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver below.

Unfortunately, the chances of there being a new game anytime soon are slim to none, but it hasn’t stopped fans from dreaming of another entry, or even a remaster/remake of some of the best titles in the series.

Some have even taken matters into their own hands and modded existing versions of the games to be more in line with today’s gaming standards.

Surprisingly though, we are getting new Legacy of Kain content this year after all, through a prequel graphic novel detailing the origins of Kain’s legacy. It’s Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – The Dead Shall Rise, and it is being written by Joshua Viola and Angie Hodapp.

Now this may not be the sequel or remake fans will have been hoping for, but it’s definitely better than nothing, and it’s also being made as a collaborative effort with Crystal Dynamics so it at least shows the Legacy of Kain series is on its radar again.

Speaking with IGN about the graphic novel, writer Joshua Viola said, “In college, I created a Soul Reaver poster for a class project, never imagining I would one day officially contribute to the franchise … Working directly with creatives from Crystal Dynamics and reuniting with former collaborators makes this a truly special endeavour."

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – The Dead Shall Rise will be a crowdfunded project through Kickstarter, and will notify fans when donations are being accepted on its official pages.

Hopefully this generates a bit more of a buzz around the forgotten IP, perhaps spurring on a new entry or some sort of legacy collection for modern consoles.
