The Last of Us' showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have revealed when season two will begin filming.
During a recent panel, the showrunners of the live-action adaptation of The Last of Us seemingly confirmed that the production date for the start of the second season is months, not years away.
The Last of Us Part I recently launched on PC.
“Months, not years away from starting” are Druckmann's exact words according to Deadline. Just to make it clear, this is when the second season will begin filming, not airing - as some fans were a tad confused. “I think some further context is needed here? The caption is a little deceptive and the quote is cut off at the beginning of this video,” asked fan account Naughty Dog Central. “Are they referring to filming or airing? It’s very unclear and can almost be interpreted as season two being finished and ready in months.” To which Destiny Jackson replied, “They are referring to the start of production.”

The Last of Us TV series proved once and for all that if done right, live-action video game adaptations can be a critical and commercial success - as indicated by its season one finale which become the most-watched episode for a debut series. While details of season two are vague at this time, we do know that it will take inspiration from The Last of Us Part II and will consist of at least two more seasons.
Filming locations for season two were revealed just a few weeks ago, with Vancouver in Canada standing in for Seattle in the show. The vast majority of season one was also filmed in Canada. The question on everybody's lips is: Who is going to play Abby? Seeing as set photos are bound to leak as soon as filming gets underway, I should imagine we'll get an announcement soon.
