It’s happening, it’s happening. Remain calm. Naughty Dog has finally teased the existence of The Last of Us Part III. Admittedly, Part III has always felt like a ‘when’ more so than an ‘if,’ but as someone who is as hyped about the game as is humanly possible to be, I will accept this crumb of an update with great pleasure.
I think it’s fair to say that as a franchise, The Last of Us has never been quite as big as it is right now. The Last of Us Part I, Naughty Dog’s new-gen remake of the first game, performed well last year and of course, we’re mere days away from the release of HBO’s major TV adaptation - which appears to be advertised everywhere I look. There’s also the upcoming multiplayer game on the way and in a recent interview, franchise creator Neil Druckmann touched upon the elusive Part III.
Check out the trailer for HBO’s The Last of Us series below.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Druckmann was asked about Part III, simply responding with, “I think there’s more story to tell,” which sounds like the answer of a man who cannot yet reveal what he knows. Druckmann previously revealed that a story outline already existed, plus let’s not forget about yesterday’s anniversary post.

The Last of Us turns 10 this June. Writing on their blog, Naughty Dog said, “We’re looking ahead to The Last of Us’ 10th anniversary in June, and we’re so excited to share more with you about the future of this franchise. We’ll have some fun surprises for you along the way.” Surprises, you say? It could be Part III.
Part II certainly left a few open threads to lead us into another instalment. With Dina seemingly out of the picture, I can’t imagine Ellie is going to be happy just existing on her lonesome. It wouldn’t surprise me if she ventured off in search of the Fireflies, whether that’s to help with a cure or simply just to contribute to their general efforts. Who do we know is now residing with the Fireflies? That’s right, Abby and Lev. Could we see Ellie and Abby forge a strained alliance? That’s what I’m hoping for, but I’m sure Druckmann has something much more grisly in mind.
