It’s been over three years now since we last saw John Wick grace our screens. Last December, we got the disappointing news that the highly anticipated follow-up to Chapter 3: Parabellum had been delayed by almost a year - originally meant to release this May, it’s currently pushed back to 23 March 2023. Oof.
Despite the sad news, you couldn’t fault the way they announced it. The Wickverse’s switchboard operators featured in a short video, in which the movie’s updated release date was seen written onto a chalkboard and typed into a computer. Up to now, that was the closest thing we had to a glimpse of the film, but things have changed.
In case you needed your mind refreshing, take a look at the trailer for Chapter 3 below.
Excitingly, we’ve just got our first look at Keanu Reeves in Chapter 4, by way of a single, mysterious still shot. Shared by @CultureCrave on Twitter, you can see the breathtaking actor in all his glory, doing something? Admittedly, the lack of context makes it all pretty vague.
As you can see in the picture, the titular hitman is surrounded by candles looking, overall, pretty dang solemn. Most of the image is so blurred that it’s hard to make much of anything out, except for the fact that, yup, that’s Keanu Reeves. It’s still the first and only look at the actual film we’ve had so far, though, so embrace it. Absorb it through your eyes. Focus yourself on Keanu.
Advert
In case you missed it, it’s been confirmed that series creator Derek Kolstad won’t be involved in Chapter 4, or the fifth movie (which, yes, is confirmed to be happening). Last year, he explained: “At a certain stage the studio will tell you, your creation is graduated, and you wish it well. I’m still close with Chad [Stahelski], still close with Dave [Leitch], and I don't know what's going to happen, but I'm excited to see.”
John Wick: Chapter 4 is being directed by Chad Stahelski (who also directed the previous three movies), and alongside Reeves, will also star Laurence Fishburne (The Bowery King) and Lance Reddick (Charon).
