The Inbetweeners was an immensely successful show, although one that I could never really get into (I tentatively admit). Don’t get me wrong, it’s easy to see why it proved to be such a hit with so many people.
The show burst onto the scene in 2008, airing its final episode in 2010. Set in a secondary school, The Inbetweeners centres around Will, Simon, Neil, and Jay as they navigate the trials and tribulations of their teenage years. This is no heartwarming coming-of-age tale though. These lads are walking disasters. Eventually, The Inbetweeners Movie was released, followed by The Inbetweeners 2. There’s also a US spin-off, although I’ve never seen it so I can’t give you any word on how it compares. If you’re a UK fan hoping for a revival though, this latest news may disappoint you.
Reboots and revivals are all the rage right now. Even Harry Potter is getting a reboot TV show over at HBO.
As reported by our friends at LADbible, Jay Cartwright actor James Buckley has said that a possible revival would be ‘creepy’ as the majority of the cast are now considerably older and thus probably shouldn’t act as their characters did in the initial run of the series. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Buckley said a reboot “would be [sad and creepy].”

He continued, “Yeah, no, I think... see, the thing is, I think we all are on the same page with The Inbetweeners. In that, I think if we could have all stayed 19 forever, and if it would still be funny, we would have done it forever. It was the best job in the world. They're my mates and I love being with them. And all we did was make each other laugh the whole time we were doing it. But it's sad and pathetic, you know? I think one of the boys, I think Joe Thomas, is 40 this year. It's, no... it's not good, is it?"
Joe Thomas is indeed the oldest of the bunch, followed by Simon Bird who is 38, Blake Harrison who is 37, and Buckley who is 35. I guess fans will have to start another rewatch instead.
