House Of The Dragon season two release date leaves fans furious

"I didn’t even want to watch this damn show three months ago and now I’m gonna be going through withdrawal."

After that finale, House Of The Dragon won't be returning to the small screen until 2024. While I have heard that good things come to those who wait, fans aren't overly enamoured with the fact that there's a two year pause before we see what happens next in one of the most epic wars in the A Song of Ice and Fire universe.

We won't delve into the details of the episode, as there are still some of you who haven't caught up with the show yet. When you do though, hit me up because I have memes. Here's one.

HBO's social media team has been swift to introduce the viewers to the concepts of Team Green and Team Black, Green being the Dowager Queen Alicent, Otto Hightower, King Aegon II, his sister-Queen Helaena, Prince Aemond, Ser Criston Cole, and Lord Larys Strong. Team Black (arguably a lot cooler) is Queen Rhaenyra, her uncle-husband Prince Daemon, Princess Rhaenys, Lord Corlys, Prince Jacaerys, Prince Lucerys and the princes' step-cousins-and-betrothed Baela and Rhaena Targaryen. It's somewhat fun, to be sure, because almost all of the characters are terrible or about to enact terrible things, but the only true stance to take in this civil war is to be anti-Criston.

Back to the finale. The dust is still settling on Dragonstone and Storm's End and fans are shocked by the cliffhanger. Again, no spoilers here, but be careful out there. Even more shocking is that we'll likely have to wait til 2024 to follow on from these events, and the audience is making its feelings known.

Author George R. R. Martin reckons four seasons will be required to cover the Dance of Dragons comprehensively - here's hoping that we won't have such a hefty wait between season two, season three and season four. I'm not sure if we'll face a meme drought in response.
