The next instalment in the Mortal Kombat series is officially on the way, but it appears as if it won’t be titled Mortal Kombat 12 as we originally expected.
It’s been four years since we last got an entry from NetherRealm Studios but just the other day, they finally posted a teaser trailer for the next entry. Captioned, “It’s almost time,” the clip shows a clock counting down seemingly to midnight. When the hand reaches 11 though, it skips ahead to one, leading many to assume that Mortal Kombat will now reboot with the next entry simply being either Mortal Kombat or Mortal Kombat 1. I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a full reveal at Summer Game Fest. In the meantime though, further details about the game have seemingly begun to leak online.
Street Fighter 6 is due to release on 2 June. Take a look at the trailer below.
As reported by GameRant, the next Mortal Kombat game will supposedly feature guest characters including Homelander from The Boys and Peacemaker from The Suicide Squad. The report adds that these avatars will be available as part of a character pass. It’s not yet known if this character pass is a part of the main game or whether it will be purchasable as extra DLC.
Advert
Leaker bilbil-kun adds that (what people are temporarily now calling) Mortal Kombat 1, will release sometime in September. It’s believed to be a new-gen exclusive so it’ll release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
As always with leaks of this kind, I’d take all of this with a generous pinch of salt until anything is officially confirmed by NetherRealm Studios. Based on the caption of the teaser trailer, we clearly don’t have long to wait.
