A free download for Hogwarts Legacy is being absolutely roasted by fans, and it's really not hard to see why. In fact, it's so bad I have to wonder what Warner Bros. was thinking releasing it in the first place.
Hogwarts Legacy is officially one of the most successful games ever released, having sold roughly a gazillion copies. The game is already generating sequel discussions, although things are actually looking a bit shaky on that front. Still, we move, and look to the more immediate future.
As I'm sure you know, the Harry Potter RPG is getting a number of free updates later this year. But while we wait for more information on those, there's one free download for Hogwarts Legacy that continues to confound and baffle fans. It's one you might actually have spotted before.

Last year Hogwarts Legacy got a free trial via PlayStation Plus Premium. For those that might not be aware, PlayStation Plus Premium has a nice perk that allows you access to a number of timed trials for major games. You can play the first few hours of Cyberpunk 2077, for example, or go hands-on with an hour of God Of War: Ragnarök. How long do you suppose you get with Hogwarts Legacy? That's right: 45 minutes.
I probably don't need to tell you that 45 minutes is nowhere near enough time to get a feel for a game like Hogwarts Legacy. Hell, it's not even long enough to get you through the game's tutorial, and that's assuming you blitz through the character creation process.
Naturally, gamers weren't happy about this trial then, and they're certainly not happy about it now. "Wow, a whole 0.75 hours of gameplay!" one Reddit user mocked.
"Don't spend it all at once," another added sarcastically.

Others made the very good point that you really can't get what Hogwarts Legacy is trying to do in less than an hour, which seems a bit silly for a trial.
"For me, exploring Hogwarts is what hooked me on the game and got me addicted for a few weeks," one user wrote. "It was absolutely NOT the tutorial which is just a bit slow and boring to an extent."
Basically, only bother with this free download if you're feeling particularly speedy.
