It’s finally here. Hogwarts Legacy is officially released out into the world today, well, for most people. It’s good news if you’re a PC, PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S owner. If you fall into the PS4 or Xbox One category, you’ll have to wait until 4 April, and if you’re a Nintendo Switch owner, you’ll eventually gain access on 27 July.
Throughout the week though, many have been enjoying Hogwarts Legacy’s early access period so we already know that Hufflepuff has the best house-exclusive side quest, while Ravenclaw is the worst pick of the bunch. On top of the PlayStation-exclusive ‘Haunted Hogsmeade’ quest, PlayStation have also now announced a themed Hogwarts Legacy controller which goes on sale today. Despite the fact that it’s only the dawn of release day, Hogwarts Legacy is already in Steam’s top 5 most-played games.

Despite the fact that Hogwarts Legacy has proved to be the most controversial title in recent memory, it’s also still surprisingly popular. Earlier this week, it became Twitch’s most-watched single player game ever with over 1.3 million concurrent viewers. Yesterday, Hogwarts Legacy boasted over 300,000 Steam players despite still being in early access. Well now that the game has been released, it’s the fifth most-played game on the platform.

As shown on SteamDB, Hogwarts Legacy sits only behind PUBG: Battlegrounds, Apex Legends, Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. So far today, Hogwarts Legacy’s peak player count is positioned at 469,893 but I can only imagine that’s going to grow throughout the day as the game arrives in the hands of more and more fans.
In fact, Hogwarts Legacy could easily soon overtake PUBG and Apex Legends. Hogwarts Legacy’s peak count outperforms both titles, but the wizarding RPG is slightly trailing behind in terms of current players with 215,124 (at the time of reporting), compared to PUBG’s 237,232, and Apex Legends’ 243,564. It’ll be interesting to see how rankings change throughout the day.
