Even though every single Harry Potter fan was begging for Quidditch to be included in Hogwarts Legacy, not everyone is happy about the announcement of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions.
In case you missed it, the standalone competitive multiplayer title was announced yesterday. Like Hogwarts Legacy, Quidditch Champions is being published under Warner Bros. Games’ Portkey Games label, although it’s in development by Unbroken Studios rather than Avalanche Software. The title will allow players to make and customise their own character, and head online to play the beloved broom-based sport either alone, with friends or other random players.

Given that Quidditch’s omission from Hogwarts Legacy was easily one of the most disappointing parts of the Wizarding World RPG for many, you’d think that most would be thrilled by this. However, on Reddit, some are actually very annoyed as they believe that the sport may have been withheld from Hogwarts Legacy on purpose.

“Conspiracy time: the only reason they didn’t have Quidditch in the game is so they could sell it as its own game,” Kaizer284 alleged, responding to the announcement of Quidditch Champions.
Others are thinking the same thing: “Doesn’t feel like a conspiracy so much as ‘they obviously didn’t include it in Legacy so they could make a standalone,’” Jtrinity182 commented. “That’s exactly what I said when I saw the news,” wrote KaygoBubs. “Yup. It was the first thing that came to my mind too. On the plus side this should be a much better experience than a bolt on to a main game,” ZealmanPlays added.
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is releasing on PC and consoles, but it’s not been confirmed when it’ll be coming out, or if it’ll be a free-to-play title or not. Fans can register to be in the chance of trying out the game early in current and upcoming playtests here.
