Hogwarts Legacy’s Nintendo Switch release date is almost upon us, and it’s now been confirmed that the game will require a 8GB day one update before players can begin their magical adventure.
For a while, fans wondered if Hogwarts Legacy would ever reach the Nintendo Switch. It failed to appear at the latest Nintendo Direct event, plus there’s the fact that it’s ambitious to run a game of this size on this particular console. Hogwarts Legacy was altered in order to release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, mainly with the addition of loading screens and simplified locations. I’m imagining we’ll see a similar approach with the Nintendo Switch version. It is finally coming though as listings are now live, including gameplay screenshots. It might take a while on release day before players can dive in judging by this day one patch.

The game is set to release on Nintendo Switch on 14 November, with many fans ‘super excited’ to either dive into Hogwarts Legacy for the first time, or play it in a portable format. Warner Bros. Games have confirmed that an 8GB day one patch will become available for both the digital and physical versions of the game.

To compare, the physical cartridge for Hogwarts Legacy is around 7GB, so it’s a whopper of a patch in comparison. There are also the extra language packs which require an extra 1.5GB per language.
While we’ve seen screenshots of Hogwarts Legacy’s Switch version, we’ve yet to see any actual gameplay footage. The screenshots look remarkably promising. The resolution is slightly lower but that’s to be expected when compared to new-gen releases. All we can hope for is sweet, sweet stability.
