The potential story for Hogwarts Legacy 2 has split the opinion of fans discussing its prospects on Reddit.
Released in February 2023, Hogwarts Legacy proved to be an instant success. So much so that it had outsold the lifetime sales of Elden Ring in just five weeks. That being said, the concurrent player number has dwindled, at least on PC. But that’s a common decline for most new releases.
Set in the late 1800s, Hogwarts Legacy is a prequel to Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter. However, it is non-canon, which arguably gives the writers at Avalanche Software even more freedom to express the story that they want to tell.
Fans on Reddit have been discussing the possibilities of the story that can be told in Hogwarts Legacy 2. Before we proceed, I will be deliberately vague when it comes to plot details on Hogwarts Legacy to avoid spoilers. What’s more, the comments in the Reddit thread related to this story are full of spoilers, so consider this to be a warning.

“Sequel: New story or continuation ?” asked Redditor and proud Ravenclaw member, DangerNat. Judging by the comments section, it does seem that most would like to see a continuation of a story, but not everyone is in agreement.
“Continuation, where they can fill in the story gaps and explain everything that remained unsaid,” replied MirrorChained. “Imo, starting a new story now would be to completely dismiss the first game, and while I understand why some want that and why, I'd rather see it through.”

Reddit user MarcoXMarcus would like to see a new story in Hogwarts Legacy saying: “As for the reason, both long and short: this one was pretty bad. Keep the technical aspects at this level, do the story right from the start and we have a really good game.”
Despite Hogwarts Legacy 2 not being announced by Warner Bros. Games, the developer's Avalanche Software has seemingly teased a sequel and given the success of the original game, we wouldn't be surprised to see that happen.
Hogwarts Legacy is out now for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It will then release on 5 May for PS4 and Xbox One, followed by Nintendo Switch on 25 July.
