It’s a project that’s already proving to be hugely divisive. In case you missed it, a rebooted Harry Potter TV series is on the way. Yes, someone thought it was a good idea to remake arguably the most popular film franchise of all-time - possibly the one visual media on this earth least in need of a remake, but here we are.
The “decade-long” project promises to faithfully adapt JK Rowling’s Harry Potter novels, with approximately one season dedicated to each book. Already, fans have threatened to boycott the series due to Rowling’s inclusion as an executive producer. The author has come under fire in recent years for her transphobic comments. One pre-existing Harry Potter cast member isn’t thrilled at the idea of a reboot. The TV series will, of course, feature a brand new cast and casting rumours are already rife. There may be one familiar face though.
Take a look at the reveal trailer for the series below.
It’s believed that Tom Felton may be interested in joining the series. In the original films, Felton famously brought Draco Malfoy to life but the actor is now 35 years old. It’s thought that Felton could portray Draco’s father Lucius, an idea he’s already expressed interest in. Back in 2019, Felton talked about the possibility of a reboot with Daily Mail. He began, “I don’t think Jo [Rowling] would want her films, her books rather and her films, to be remade anytime soon, but I’m sure in 20 years when they’ve got 4D, scratch-and-sniff cinemas, or whatever, then they’ll want to do it all over again.”

“My hope is that when they do it I’ll be old enough to play Lucius. Give it another 15 years and I’ll come back and play Lucius. I would do it in a heartbeat.” Admittedly, 20 years have not passed - it’s only been four - but it’s still a plausible idea. The kids are 11 years old during their first year at Hogwarts. If Felton is 35, he could easily play a Lucius who would’ve become a father at 24.
The rumour is doing the rounds on TikTok. User and Harry Potter fan sahiltnt said, “I definitely could see this happening because Tom Felton I think is the most active Harry Potter cast member out of all of them from the original films. He’s still very involved in the Harry Potter community and, of course, he was a part of DracoTok in 2020 so I definitely think he would come book.” We’ll have to wait and see if this proves to be true.
