GTA 6 release date seemingly narrowed down by new announcements

What do these publishers know that we don't?

Those desperately searching for any news regarding Rockstar Games’ upcoming title Grand Theft Auto VI think they might have found a clue that points to its release date, but you might want to temper your expectations if you think that this info is concrete.

Both Rockstar Games and Take-Two have been pretty adamant about Grand Theft Auto VI releasing in either Q3 or Q4 of this year.

They’ve been asked several times if that’s still the case, and each time they’ve doubled down. Back in May last year, Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick directly told IGN "We do feel highly confident that we'll deliver [Grand Theft Auto VI] in fall of 2025."

So, pretty cut-and-dry stuff, right? Well, that’s not stopped a lot of industry analysts from stating that they believe that the title will be pushed back to 2026.

Back in December last year, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier stated that he “would be shocked if it actually made it next year.”

“I think it will probably slip again because Rockstar games always slip,” Schreier said on the Kinda Funny Games podcast, “But as of right now, Take-Two is saying they’re still on track.”

Although most are still assuming GTA VI is still on track for a late 2025 release, the doubters can’t help but doubt.

However, the now infamous Twitter account @GTAVI_Countdown thinks they’ve discovered the truth, based on the release dates of other hotly anticipated games.

“Death Stranding 2 and Mafia The Old Country launching this summer are great indications that GTA 6 is still releasing this fall,” @GTAVI_Countdown revealed in a Tweet, “as the industry is clearing the way for it, knowing there’s no competition.”

Now it’s no secret that most publishers are terrified of accidentally releasing their game alongside GTA VI, as it would directly impact the sales of their games, but I think it’s a stretch to take this as confirmation.

Then again, Mafia: The Old Country is being published by 2K, who are a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive so, perhaps they do know something we don’t.
