Rockstar Games has been accused of breaking promises regarding work crunch following the latest GTA VI development update.
Development on GTA VI is still ongoing at the time of writing. The first trailer that dropped late last year looked fantastic but given its release date of 2025, it’s clear the game is still in need of finishing touches and probably buckets of polish.

In order to give the game the attention it deserves, Rockstar Games has reportedly made the bold decision to make office work mandatory for its employees. Like many companies during the COVID-19 pandemic, Rockstar allowed its employees to work from home.

Unfortunately, that luxury has been more trouble than it was worth, as Rockstar has been victim to several leaks and hacks, one of which shared an early look at GTA VI via screenshots and video. The trailer for the game was also leaked several hours early, forcing Rockstar to release it before its premiere.
Employees aren’t fond of this decision, and have reportedly complained to the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain.
One staff member said: “After so many broken promises, we now fear management may even be paving the way for a return to toxic ‘crunch’ practices. Senior leadership need to rethink their reckless decision making and engage with their staff to find an arrangement that works for everyone.”
Another added, “As usual, there has been zero consultation with us: the people who these policy changes most affect. Just one of my concerns is being forced to work late hours in the office to maintain contact with global teams when before we could log on from home to attend late meetings.”

The release date for GTA VI is still currently unknown though until it officially releases, it looks like Rockstar staff will be forced to resume a five-day office week.
