It’s not uncommon for a promising game that excites fans to suddenly be cancelled, in fact, there are many games that we’d never heard of that never got a chance to see the light of day.
One such game that comes to mind is Scalebound from Bayonetta 3 developer PlatinumGames, an action RPG that was coming to Xbox One and PC, first teased in 2013 but was sadly cancelled in 2017. Scalebound was to tell a tale of a character named Drew who was accompanied by a dragon named Thuban. Like seriously, the gameplay that was revealed at Gamescom 2015 blew fans away and it’s an absolute crime that we’ll probably never get a chance to play this game.

Speaking of being a crime, another promising title that was cancelled way before its time is Agent which was being developed by Rockstar North. Agent was first teased in July 2007, before being fully announced at E3 2009 and was set to be a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Set during the 1970s, Agent looked to offer a blend of James Bond espionage infused with the signature high-octane Rockstar gameplay that we know and love from its Grand Theft Auto series.

However, news on the progress of Agent would remain dormant for a number of years, having gamers worried that it had ventured into the dreaded developmental hell. There were sparks of hope when the trademark for Agent was renewed in 2013 and 2017, respectively, but that hope was well and truly dashed when the game was cancelled in November 2018.
It’s safe to assume that Agent will never be released on modern consoles, even if it was adapted for today’s technology. That being said, it hasn't stopped fans from wondering what could have been with the lost title from GTA VI developer, Rockstar Games.
Rockstar Games has never gone into great detail as to why Agent was cancelled, but a former developer of Rockstar North has shed some light on what this game could have been. In a blog post from Odde Vermeji, other than being set during the 1970s, Agent would be a game full of laser guns and wacky gadgets and would take players to locations such as Cairo, France as well as a ski resort in Switzerland. If the name Vermeji rings a bell, that could be due to the developer recently revealing details of a gun used in GTA IV that fired unfortunate NPCs.
Furthermore, the ski resort location would have featured a downhill gunfight that may have been inspired by the James Bond movies, The Spy Who Loved Me and A View to a Kill. It was also supposed to feature a section that would take us to a space section, again inspired by a James Bond movie, likely to have been Moonraker.

Agent certainly sounded like it could have been a fun game, especially for fans of James Bond. Ultimately, this news will heartbreak a legion of fans for a cancelled game that promised so much, yet failed to deliver.
