Grand Theft Auto VI is coming this year, but we're still waiting for a release date announcement.
Now, a new rumour suggests this could be the case, as Rockstar looks to bump up the price of the GTA VI Collector’s Edition to cost almost as much as a brand new video game console.
Industry analyst Anurag Reddy of Analytics Insight says that special editions of GTA VI could go as high as $250: “Collector’s editions, rumoured at $250 with extras like artbooks or in-game perks, target diehards willing to splurge."

“GTA V’s pre-orders reached $800 million; GTA VI’s higher price points and larger install base push projections skyward. Fan theories, anything from map size to microtransaction strategies, keep heat on, building momentum.”
Considering the Xbox Series S currently retails for about $299, with frequent sales and discounts cropping up from time to time, it’s wild to think that GTA VI could end up costing that much if you want all the perks.
Reddy also reckons a release date of Autumn 2025 seems likely, aligning with GTA V’s original September release.
This will fuel much of the sales for the holiday season, accommodating things like console bundles and PS5 Pro upgrades.

These pricing rumours come at the same time as Nintendo has announced game prices for the Switch 2. Mario Kart World alone will set you back $80/£75, while enhanced versions of games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Kirby and the Forgotten Land will land up to $80.
All-in-all, it looks like games are about to get more expensive again.
It's bad news for gamers on a budget, who may start to feel like they’re being priced out of new experiences. RIP to our wallets.
