Despite the recent reveal of the GTA VI trailer, Rockstar Games is still heavily focused on GTA Online. Well, until its expected newer version arrives post-2025.
When the first official trailer for GTA VI dropped on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel, it had taken over social media. At the time of writing, that debut Grand Theft Auto VI trailer has garnered over 145 million views and counting. That being said, Rockstar Games has now released a new update for GTA Online and it’s filled with content.

Earlier this week, Rockstar Games deployed patch 1.68 aka ‘The Chop Shop’ update. This massive update not only adds new story content, but players can now run illegal chop shops to customise and sell some of the most luxurious vehicles in Los Santos. Who says that crime doesn't pay? At least in the world of Grand Theft Auto, so I wouldn't recommend getting up to in-game shenanigans in the real world.

“In GTA Online: The Chop Shop, Liberty City's Yusuf Amir and his cousin Jamal offer players an onramp to the newest illicit business to hit Los Santos, the Salvage Yard, where they’ll steal, strip, and sell the city's most coveted rides across a series of exhilarating new Salvage Yard Robberies,” reads the description from Rockstar Games. What’s more, the update also brings new Drift Racing events to the LS Car meet. Oh, and we will also be treated to some festive surprises and birthday gifts. Happy days!
In total, there will be five new Salvage Yard properties to own where you’ll be able to run your newly acquired (and illegal) business venture. Selling customised cars won't be your only source of income from the chop shop because you can even sell rare car parts to car enthusiasts. If you’re not content with your new source of income, then you can partake in “bold new robberies” with Jamal rotating a weekly target of new cars to steal for Yusuf. As with the traditional heists of Lost Santos, these new operations will require special intel and preparation.
However, as detailed on RockstarGames.com, quite possibly the best feature of the new update, at least from an immersion perspective, is that animals can now wander the city in Freemode on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This option can be toggled on and off, but seriously, why would you not want this feature? Update 1.68 also adds a wealth of new vehicles (including ownable police cars), clothing, tattoos, daily objectives and much more.
GTA V and GTA Online are available now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Grand Theft Auto VI, will be released at some point in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
