Gray Zone Warfare is the new kid on the block in the military simulation arena and it’s currently impressing leagues of streamers as they play an early alpha build.
Set to rival games like Escape From Tarkov, due to its extraction gameplay style; and Call of Duty, due to its gunplay, Gray Zone Warfare is already off to a great start.
Call of Duty is still the leader in online shooters due to its legacy.
Perhaps the biggest downside, at the moment, is that there is no release date and only streamers have access to the game. Otherwise, it looks brilliant and will impress those who love hardcore shooters.

After watching many hours of streamed gameplay over the past few days, it’s safe to say that this is going to be the next hardcore, tactical shooter for those who love a challenge and want a degree of realism in an FPS.
To be honest, Gray Zone Warfare has more in common with games like Rust due to its expansive, persistent map.
It has been great to watch players head out into the jungles and discover landing zones, tackle combat, and find epic loot which ends either by retreating back to the safety of camp, or by getting slayed via PvP and losing their loot.
What stands out the most is the gorgeous scenery being powered by Unreal Engine 5. The variety of environments are stunning and the attention to detail is second to none.

I’ve watched as a player has had a firefight in one area and returned after several hours to see the bullet holes have remained and the dead bodies are left laying in the streets.
It’s a lot more strategic than Call of Duty and the expansive potential for chaotic firefights is huge.
I’m eager to see what we get from another playtest as there’s a vast ‘Ground Zero’ area in the middle of the map that’s currently unavailable and it will add another layer of danger for players.
If you want tactics, realism, and a gorgeous backdrop, you’ll want to wishlist Gray Zone Warfare.
