Insiders claimed that this year’s The Game Awards would be special, but I certainly didn’t expect the show to open with The Witcher 4’s first trailer.
Heck, I wasn’t even convinced that a trailer for the game would land in 2025.
Yet here we are, with confirmation that Ciri will be taking the reins in this next adventure - although Geralt will seemingly be featured as a supporting character.

I should stress that this is a pre-rendered trailer, created using Unreal Engine 5 so while it’s undoubtedly stunning, we’re still without an idea of what the game itself will actually look like.
Still, there’s plenty we can glean from the trailer including the fact that The Witcher 4 will seemingly take us to several of the Northern Kingdoms - and let’s just say that the folk of the village Ciri finds herself in don’t exactly seem all that welcoming upon her arrival.
Perhaps most importantly, Ciri’s glowing eyes reveal she’s a fully-fledged witcher by this point, having undergone the Trial of the Grasses.
Beyond that, it looks as if Ciri will set about dealing with human conflicts - intervening in the ritual Mioni is caught up in - alongside the usual witcher monster-slaying fare.

Of course, it’s going to be a while until we get our hands on the game.
The trailer didn’t mention a launch window. In the meantime though, CD Projekt RED has dropped a set of freebies that’ll allow you to admire its beauty in even more detail.
Take a look at the trailer below.
Over on the official The Witcher Twitter account, CDPR announced that fans can pick and choose from a selection of The Witcher 4 inspired wallpapers, with scenes taken directly from the stunning cinematic trailer.

There’s a silhouetted Ciri, various shots of the character unsheathing her sword, and one of her preparing to fight mysterious new foe Bauk.
Another wallpaper features the unnamed village blanketed in snow.
You can download all of the wallpaper’s now from The Witcher’s official site. Simply click on the one you like best and choose from the following sizes: 1080x1920, 1920x1080, 2560x1600, 3440x1440, and 3840x2160.
It’s a nice little offering to tide us over.
