Throughout gaming history, there’s always been that one crowd that’ll take literally any franchise and any character and find a way to make it dirty. It’s just the way the world works and if there’s one fandom you can rely on to get horny, it’s the Final Fantasy folk.

Square Enix’s celebrated RPG is chock-full of characters, many of which I’m sure have got players’ juices flowing (ew, help). After all, that cursed NSFW Tifa statue surely exists because someone will buy it. In this latest news though, some Final Fantasy XIV fans aren’t getting their saucy fix as the game’s erotic roleplaying server is being blocked by an army of catgirls.

Take a look at the reveal trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth below.

I’m going to explain what that means because as of a few minutes ago, I also responded with a major ‘huh.’ Earlier this week, a FFXIV patch introduced a new feature known as the Data Centre Travel system which allows players to visit other worlds and servers. Well, one server has been getting far more attention than most: Balmung.

Balmung is known to be a hub for erotic roleplaying groups. I don’t need to dive into the specifics. You can imagine for yourself what kinds of shenanigans they get up to, but seemingly the FFXIV community is curious to see all of this for themselves.

The thing is, those who natively play on the Balmung servers aren’t so willing to let ogling tourists into their mysterious den and so an army of catgirls is currently lining the entrance to Balmung, prohibiting ‘tourists’ from getting inside. Colloquially, it’s now being referred to as The Great Wall of Balmung.

Some players have reported waiting in line for 30 minutes before they were able to squeeze into Balmung to see its … wonders … horrors? Depends on your tastes I suppose. The dedicated catgirls are supposedly taking shifts because apparently being a part-time virtual bouncer is a job now. All in all, it’s a weird affair. If you’re desperate to get past the blockade, I suppose you could dress up as a catgirl. Personally, I’ll be leaving Balmung alone but you do you.
