Manchester United forward, Mason Greenwood, has been removed by EA Sports from all offline versions of the latest FIFA game FIFA 22. Greenwood is no longer included in Manchester United's squad and has been completely removed from the offline database. This follows Greenwood's arrest on Sunday 30 January, after images and videos surfaced on Instagram with a woman accusing the player of rape and assault. Her account has since been deleted.
A statement released by the police following the arrest says:
“Greater Manchester Police was made aware earlier today of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence. An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing."
Manchester United suspended Greenwood from training and matches "until further notice" shortly prior to his arrest. In a statement the club said that it does not “condone violence of any kind” and that it is “aware of images and allegations circulating on social media."
FIFA 22's new squad update for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC, which went live today (1 February), removes Greenwood's likeness. Following the update Greenwood will only be playable in game if he was placed on your team in a pre-existing Career Mode save. Going forward he will not be available for selection.
The one place Greenwood's image remains is on his Ultimate Team card. These cards can be purchased with real money and are still available on the trading market. Not only this, but following the allegations the price of the card on the market rose by more than 300%. It remains unknown whether this card will be removed at a later date.
Greenwood has yet to comment at the time of writing.
