December's PlayStation Plus games offer not one, not two, but three respectable Far Cry games, but there's a catch. They're only downloadable for some of its subscribers.
Yes, it's the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers that are getting these Far Cry games, as well as Mortal Shell, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, Yakuza: Like A Dragon, Judgment, and many more. It's a tidy cornucopia of titles, unless you're paying for Extra and Premium for the retro games, which were honestly a little lacking this time round. And the previous month. And the month before that too. If only there was another way to play retro games as a result of the tireless efforts of a community committed to the preservation of these bits of history. We'll never know!
Now, the three Far Cry games that are available through PS Plus right now are Far Cry 5, Far Cry New Dawn and Far Cry Primal. Dry your eyes, my sweet gamer, and remove your fist from the wall. It's not Far Cry 3, no, but you did have a chance to nab that for free in the past and I can't help you now if you didn't do that. Plus, Far Cry 5 and its sequel New Dawn aren't too shabby.
Advert
I've just restarted the game and my word is it fun to beedle through the rolling hills of Montana, blowing cult iconography up and bashing mountain lions with a steel baseball bat. Do I wish Far Cry 5 had stuck the landing and depicted an incisive commentary on the radicalisation of white religious groups in the remote areas of the United States? Of course I do. But it is what it is. Regarding New Dawn, I can't quite set the scene here without spoiling the end of Far Cry 5, but let's say that you won't be fission- I mean fishing for things to do in this brave new world.
And obviously, Far Cry Primal rises above the other two with its ability to tame sabretooth tigers and ride mammoths. Historical accuracy is for losers and losers only.
