A new Ubisoft subsidiary has announced its CEOs with Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed fans slamming the appointments.
In 2021, Ubisoft cancelled the mobile game Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad after it had been development for at least a year. In charge of that game was Charlie Guillemot, as the creative director and studio manager of MobyGames.
If you recognise the name Charlie Guillemot, that may not be just because he's the son of Ubisoft chairman and CEO Yves Guillemot, under whose leadership Ubisoft has faced allegations of abuse from its employees.
After Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad was cancelled, and after being made to apologise for using “insensitive and harmful” imagery, Charlie Guillemot resigned from Ubisoft and formed a Web3, AI and NFT company.

Now, as reported by PC Gamer, Charlie Guillemot is back at Ubisoft as part of the company’s partnership with Tencent to focus on evolving the popular three properties, Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six and Far Cry.
Ubisoft and industry veteran Christophe Derennes also joins Charlie Guillemot to help form a new Ubisoft subsidiary backed by Tencent.
“Ubisoft has announced an important milestone in the roadmap of its new subsidiary — introduced on March 27 — with the appointment of Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot as co-CEOs,” reads an announcement posted on Ubisoft.com.
“This new structure will be dedicated to bringing the Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six franchises to their full potential.”

Fans have reacted to this news on Reddit, and it’s fair to say that not everyone is impressed.
“This is a disaster,” exclaimed RunEffective3479.
“New s**t. Same as the old s**t,” said PhuckSJWs.
“Doesn't matter. Ubisoft is dead,” claimed ReillyLake, replying to a tweet from Wario64.

“Dumpster fire! Ubisoft's main problem is the Guillemot family,” replied SaberZer02.
Will Charlie Guillemot and Christophe Derennes help change the fortunes of Ubisoft, now backed by Tencent?
Only time will tell. Granted, they may have it within them but it's going to be difficult for Ubisoft to overcome the negative consensus its leadership continues to be met with.
