Bethesda is busy beavering away supporting Starfield and prepping the next part in the Elder Scrolls franchise leaving few people to seemingly work on the ‘new-gen’ update for Fallout 4. The promised patch has been waiting in the wings for a long time and fans are, understandably, getting frustrated with the wait.
It was originally believed that we would see the update in 2023, but that has since slipped into 2024 with no firm date in sight. What we’re waiting for seems to be a small boost to the visuals, with a bump in frames per second, too.
All we want is Fallout 4 but prettier
The last we heard on the update was a tweet on 13 December 2023 saying, “Thank you for your patience with us as we work on the Fallout 4 next-gen update. We know you're excited, and so are we! But we need a bit more time and look forward to an exciting return to the Commonwealth in 2024.” Since then, nothing has been heard.

Fans are frustrated with many of them taking to Twitter to express their upset, “Wow! It only took a year for you to update us on the 2023 next-gen update, which is now not coming till 2024.” says one fan, while another said this, “Does it really take 2 years to release an fps and resolution boost?”
There are some words of positivity too, “Take all the time you guys need to make a great game even greater” which is lovely to see. With other other players wondering if the update will be released in April, around the time of the Amazon Prime adaptation, which would make some commercial sense as players will have more interest in the franchise again. Hopefully, the update drops sooner rather than later because we’re starving for more Fallout and this will tide us over.
