Fallout fans aren’t particularly pleased with the latest update regarding a potential sequel to Fallout: New Vegas, although everyone seems to be annoyed for different reasons.
Alright, a bit of necessary background info is required before we get into the latest update.
VGC’s Jordan Middler recently popped up on the Friends Per Second podcast, during which he stated that "There are multiple Fallout projects in development, including as far as I'm aware, the one you've all been wanting.”
Now, opinions are divided as to what “the one you’ve all been wanting” could refer to, but there’s four options here: it’s either Fallout 5, Fallout 3 Remastered, Fallout: New Vegas Remastered, or Fallout: New Vegas 2.

A lot of outlets decided to assume that this means Bethesda is hard at work on a sequel to Fallout: New Vegas, and, naturally, this news made it back to one of the lead developers who was responsible for making the original game: Chris Avellone.
Although Avellone no longer works for Obsidian Entertainment, he did work for them during the development of Fallout: New Vegas as their Chief Creative Officer. He’s also credited as one of the game’s many writers.
When asked if he was involved in developing a potential sequel to Fallout: New Vegas, Avellone replied that it straight up doesn’t exist.
“No, but "possibly New Vegas" headline is used so often to generate clicks for media sites to the point it's mostly noise by now,” Avellone revealed in a post on Twitter.

“BTW, I don't mean the above meanly, it's just over the years I've seen this same claim by the media soooo many times - but hey, I could be wrong, but from what I've heard, if it's happening, it ain't Obsidian (I know the rundown of their upcoming titles and franchises).”
Over in a post on the r/Fallout subreddit detailing Avellone’s reply, the comments are exclusively negative… but perhaps not for the reasons you may assume.
For the most part, a lot of people seem to think that, as Avellone is no longer a part of Obsidian Entertainment, his word shouldn’t be taken as gospel.
Alternatively, a lot of the commenters simply don’t want a Fallout: New Vegas sequel. They seem to be open to the possibility of a Fallout: New Vegas remake/remaster, but it seems that the majority of people simply don’t care for a direct follow-up.

And y’know what? I agree.
Woah woah woah, hey– put the pitchforks away. I love Fallout: New Vegas, and I’d play a remake or a remaster of it in a heartbeat. But a sequel? That would just be Fallout 5, but with extra steps.
We’re already likely, at least, seven or eight years away from a new mainline Fallout game, unless Bethesda outsources its development to another studio, so I’d rather they just dig in and get a proper follow-up to Fallout 4 out instead.
