Fans of Fallout may want to close their ears (and eyes) as Bethesda has revealed it will be many years until Fallout 5 will be released due to the studio’s current work on The Elder Scrolls 6.
With Fallout 4 quickly approaching its 10-year anniversary, fans are eager for the next instalment to make an appearance. Despite Fallout 76 holding the fort in recent years, there is nothing quite like a main Fallout instalment but it seems as though it may be a while until we get it.

This is as a result of Bethesda both hard at work making Starfield a viable title long-term and also working on The Elder Scrolls 6 which only entered into full development back in August 2023. Due to the studio’s diverted attention, Fallout 5 has taken a backseat according to Todd Howard himself.

In a conversation in July this year, Bethesda executive Howard discussed the studio’s plans going forward.
Howard said: "Yes, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and, you know, we’re going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our slate’s pretty full going forward for a while. We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well."
No timeframe was provided for either title and we are unsure what these “other projects” are but with such a packed docket, some fans are worried we will not see Fallout 5 until at least 2035! Additionally, Howard is unsure if he will even be present for the development of the Fallout sequel after revealing Elder Scrolls VI may mark the end of his time at Bethesda.
With Howard making this statement before the launch of Starfield and the subsequent issues that have plagued its recent RPG, we can only imagine that the studio is facing even more problems that will need resolving before it turns its attention to Fallout 5.

Howard is yet to make more recent comments on the state of development so we will have to keep our fingers crossed.
