Fallout fans want to play as ghouls and super mutants in the upcoming Fallout 5 and we’re all for it. So please Bethesda, hurry up and make it happen already.
Following the recent success of Amazon’s live-action Fallout series, fans cannot get enough of its post-apocalyptic world. This is a good thing, because not only has the Fallout video game series had a massive spike in concurrent players but the Amazon series has just been renewed for a second season.

The last main entries in the Bethesda RPG series to be released were Fallout 4 (which finally has its free new-gen update) in 2016 and Fallout 76 in 2018. So it’s fair to say that we’re due on a new release, especially with all the hype that the Fallout series has been receiving lately.

We know that Fallout 5 is on the way, after all, Bethesda has confirmed it, however, we do not know exactly when it will arrive. All we know for sure is that Fallout 5 will likely be released after The Elder Scrolls VI, which by the way, still doesn't have a release date either.
With that in mind, it’s safe to assume that Fallout 5 is a long way off and it may not even be released until the next generation of consoles has arrived. Despite being left in the dark, this has given fans a perfect opportunity to let Bethesda know what they’d like to see in Fallout 5 such as finally being able to play as ghouls and super mutants.
To be fair, ghouls and super mutants are not usually the most friendly of folk in the Fallout series with the exceptions being John Hancock from Fallout 4 and super mutants Uncle Leo and Fawkes from Fallout 3. But now we have been welcomed by another friendly ghoul, Cooper Howard from the Fallout TV show.
“Would you want to play a Fallout game where you could customise the "species" of your character? Ghouls, Mutants and Androids?” asked Redditor MitchMyester23.
“I absolutely would, but it'll never happen. Playing as a super mutant would probably lock you out of most major human settlements, meaning Bethesda would have to create alternatives,” exclaimed LikeAnEvianBottle. “Almost every NPC would talk to you differently if your character was a super mutant or a ghoul.

“I could imagine some sort of Dragon Age: Origins-esque setup where your choice of race gives you a different opening scenario, which I think would be very cool,” suggested PrivateJokerX929. “The trick is figuring out a way for those different starting scenarios to eventually converge on the same main questline.”
“I’d be down for being able to make a ghoul character but you can become one in the game as you play. Kind of like how Thaddus is turning into a ghoul,” said Ancient_Attitude_745.
It will be interesting to see whether Bethesda will give players more choice of species in Fallout 5, after all, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim offers a good level of choice and that is a game originally released over a decade ago. It remains to be seen if Bethesda hears the calls from fans but on the bright side, at least it has plenty of time to test the waters of new-playable species with the release of Fallout 5 being years away.
