Fallout 4 players are just realising that you can skip the game’s prologue nearly a decade after it was originally released.
Released in 2015 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Fallout 4 is one of the most popular games in Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG series, and that’s saying something considering it's been going for nearly three decades.

“As the sole survivor of Vault 111, you enter a world destroyed by nuclear war. Every second is a fight for survival, and every choice is yours. Only you can rebuild and determine the fate of the Wasteland. Welcome home,” reads the synopsis of Fallout 4.

In 2024, the Fallout series welcomed a new audience largely due to the popularity of the critically acclaimed live-action series from Amazon Prime Video. What’s more, in that same year, Fallout 4 fans were also treated to the long-awaited free new-gen update.
According to the website HowLongToBeat.com, Fallout 4 can take an estimated 27 to 160 hours to complete, depending on your play style. However, if you want to trim that time down a little, it is possible to skip the prologue.
While you can’t skip the prologue officially, a Steam user has recommended a work-a-round. Simply put, create a separate save file that can be used for every new playthrough.
“Is there a way to safely skip the prologue? I can't find anything about it,” asked MRJ. “Or am I missing the fact that there is a way to skip it without console command/mods? I've started a couple of new characters and the intro/tutorial period is way too tedious.”

Fellow Steam user mgregory162 replied: “Create a save before you leave the vault, so you can restart it there every time with the option to change your character’s appearance.”
Best of all, this option to save at this point in the game should also work a treat on the console versions of Fallout 4.
Fallout 4 is available with a subscription to Xbox Game Pass at no extra cost as well as being currently included in PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium.
