Fallout 4 free new-gen update leaves fans pretty annoyed

If you remember the mention of a Fallout 4 free new-gen update sometime last year then you would not be mistaken as Bethesda promised just this. However, with the update planned for 2023 and us hurtling towards the end of it, it appears as though we won’t be seeing it any time soon.

New-gen updates are all the rage lately with titles such as The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 getting the treatment. As a way of updating games to keep up with the rapidly increasing performance rates on current-gen consoles, this is the perfect way for studios to keep fans happy… and their wallets full.

Not to miss out on the action, 2022 saw Bethesda announce an upgrade for Fallout 4 which would include better graphics, better framerates and bonus features much like its Skyrim: Anniversary Edition. Bethesda excited fans by revealing the update would be arriving in 2023 but with it being December 2023 at the time of writing this, it doesn’t appear to be happening.

With no updates and the studio perhaps hard at work on prolonging the lifespan of its latest release Starfield, it has perhaps put the Fallout 4 update on the backburner. However, fans are not ones to forget and many have taken to Reddit to share their confusion.

“What ever happened to the Fallout 4 next-gen console update the people were talking about?” Posted one user to r/Fallout. “Just curious since I haven’t heard anyone talk about this since like around June.”

What followed was a plethora of reasons as to why Bethesda have seemingly forgotten about the update with one user claiming it is waiting for the hype that will arrive with the Fallout TV series.

“It's likely that they will wait until the Fallout TV show is out to capitalize on its hype,” they claimed. “From a marketing perspective, they want people buying Starfield right now, so it doesn't make sense financially to release a product that would rival it so quickly. It sucks for us, of course, but you always have to think of what will make the most profit, and that will usually be the answer.”

With no update from Bethesda, all we can do is speculate but it is no doubt that Fallout 4 fans would appreciate the new-gen treatment.
