It was a slap that was heard the world over. When Best Actor winner, Will Smith, took a hand to host, Chris Rock, at the 94th annual Academy Awards it wasn’t just Rock who was taken by surprise.

It was an event so monumental that not only did Smith make an apology to Rock, but so did the Academy itself. However, despite already expressing his regret, Smith still went on to resign from the Academy, meaning that he will no longer be able to have his say on who is nominated nor who will win one of the prestigious awards. In short, the whole debacle is a very big deal.

Now, this article is about Elden Ring, trust me, so if you want to see some of the best that the online elements the game has to offer, then check out these player messages in the video below.

Gamers aren’t ones to shy away from a meme, and this incident was absolutely ripe for the meming. While plenty of witty jokes and funny images have been created surrounding the slap, this is the first time that we’ve seen the event intrude upon a video game’s world. The game of choice for this merry prankster is FromSoftware’s latest masochistic pleasure, Elden Ring.

If you so choose, Elden Ring can be a multiplayer experience. When online there are a number of ways players can interact. You can leave insightful messages for others to read, most commonly “Try finger, but hole.” You can summon a player to come to your aid in taking down a tricky boss. Finally, if you are feeling frisky you can invade another’s world and challenge them to fight.

One player who goes by the username u/the_ginger_one367 on Reddit was quite surprised by a recent invasion. The notice appeared that another player was incoming, stating “Invaded by Bloody Finger WILL SMITH!” While the advancing player didn’t look anything like the Fresh Prince, he had the same reason for his approach.

The invader walked calmly up to the player, gave him one stonking slap and then calmly walked away again. Art imitating life.
