Elden Ring is widely considered to be one of the best video games of all time, and for good reason.
Elden Ring not only featured the challenging gameplay that fans of FromSoftware know and love, but its enticing open world of the Lands Between was filled with wonder as much as horror, encouraging players to explore every corner.

Developed by the studio behind the likes of the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, Demon’s Souls and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, some would consider Elden Ring to be the pinnacle of FromSoftware’s creative achievements. That notion was perhaps justified when Elden Ring won Game of the Year at the 2022 Game Awards.

Being released in February 2022, many fans would have experienced everything there is to discover in the Lands Between by now, so it stands to reason that fans will be calling for more Elden Ring goodness. Thankfully, almost a year after its initial release, that call was heard loud and clear with the announcement of the expansion, ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’.
Sadly at this time, we do not have a release date for ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’, but many will be hoping that it will launch by the end of this year or early 2024. We’ll be having our fingers crossed.
Yet, despite its immense popularity, there will be many gamers that have not had the pleasure of experiencing Elden Ring for a multitude of reasons. However, that may be about to change soon if recent speculation is to be believed that Elden Ring could be headed to Xbox Game Pass.
So why are some believing that Elden Ring is on its way to Xbox Game Pass? This week, Sarah Bond, Microsoft’s VP for Game Creator Experience and Ecosystem tweeted a cryptic image that perhaps hinted at Elden Ring’s imminent arrival on Microsoft’s subscription service.

Firstly, Sarah Bond tweeted emojis of an elderly person and a ring, followed by an Xbox hashtag. Then, Bond followed up with another tweet featuring an image of the FromSoftware RPG. This, of course, sent fans into a frenzy hoping to see Elden Ring on Xbox Game Pass.

The tweets could mean absolutely nothing and Sarah Bond could simply just be a fan expressing love for Elden Ring. That being said, what better way to boost sales of the upcoming Elden Ring expansion than by adding the main game to Xbox Game Pass, not only offering it to returning fans but also those that may not have played it before? Of course, until an official announcement is or isn't made, we should take the speculation with a pinch of salt, until proven otherwise.
In our review of Elden Ring, we said it’s: a “constantly surprising adventure that has taken FromSoftware’s tried-and-tested formula to delirious new heights. One of the best video games of the last decade, and an absolutely essential release, Elden Ring really does confirm that 2022 is off to an incredible start.”
Elden Ring is out now for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
