This week has been full of bad news for fans of certain EA games, thanks to a number of heartbreaking cancellations.
It was disappointing enough when it was confirmed that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is being pushed back to April, but that pales in comparison to the pain that Battlefield and Apex Legends fans are going through. EA has confirmed that Battlefield Mobile is being scrapped, and Apex Legends Mobile is being shut down, not even a year since its launch. It’s also been reported that a single-player Apex Legends game has been ditched.
Take a look at the trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor below.
Thankfully though, EA’s upcoming Lord of the Rings game, Heroes of Middle-earth, has survived the purge. As GamingonPhone reports, the good news was confirmed by COO Laura Miele during a recent earnings call, where she stated that it’s still in active development.

In case you’d forgotten about it, Heroes of Middle-earth was announced last year, and is a strategy-based “collectible RPG” for mobile devices. The title promises “high-fidelity graphics, cinematic animations, and stylised art”, and will include “a wide roster of characters from across the vast universe of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit”.
Heroes of Middle-earth hasn’t been given a specific release date at the time of writing, but Miele said that it’s currently set to release later in 2023. It sounds like this year is shaping up to be a great one for LotR fans, as The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is also aiming to release in the coming months.
Admittedly, the prospect of a mobile game probably isn’t the most exciting thing in the world for a lot of gamers out there. It doesn’t sound like it’s going to be a new Shadow of Mordor, put it that way, but that’s not to say it won’t be fun in its own right.
