As per several reports, Electronic Arts will be shutting down Project CARS as it is not compatible with the rest of the publisher's portfolio of racing and simulation titles.
The first and second games in the series received warm reviews, praising the graphics as well as the ways that it stood apart and surpassed aspects from competitors like Gran Turismo and Forza. Of course, Project CARS 3 was more wobbly than a Reliant Robin, scrapping everything that made the series what it was for an arcade style approach.

"Following an evaluation of the next Project CARS title and its longer-term growth potential, we have made the decision to stop further development and investment for the franchise," explained a spokesperson for Electronic Arts in a statement supplied to GamesIndustry.biz, adding that this decision was not an easy one. Developer Slightly Mad Studios employs over 175 people from 30 different countries and Electronic Arts has stated that it is doing its best to transfer these staff into new positions within its umbrella of studios.

"We are working with everyone impacted by this decision to place them into suitable roles across our EA Sports and racing portfolio, as well as other parts of EA, wherever we can. Our priority now is on providing as much support as possible to our people through this transition," concluded the publisher.
Understandably, the news has been met with disappointment but not a whole lot of surprise from fans of the series. "A shame we'll never see the franchise live up to what it could be then. PC2 was a very solid stepping stone and it could've been a lot more," said DoneTomorrow on Reddit. "This sucks, PC4 returning to its PC2 roots and pushing things forward would have been a huge benefit to the sim racing community. We are slim for options," added filmguy123.
