After what feels like an eternity, Dead Island 2 is finally set to release tomorrow, on 21 April. It’s officially been in development for 11 years so to say that its time in the spotlight has been a long time coming would be understatement. Techland may have stolen the game’s thunder though with their latest zombie-centric announcement. The studio has teased a potential Dying Light 3.
Back in February, a major update was launched to celebrate the game’s one year anniversary. Dying Light 2 was already a whopper of a game. Back when it launched, devs teased that it could take you up to 500 hours to see all that the game has to offer. In truth, completionists can probably see the vast majority of the game in closer to 100 hours. In our review, GAMINGbible’s Ewan wrote, “Techland’s long-awaited zombie RPG mostly delivers the goods in style, providing an expansive - if not entirely original - open-world playground that’s filled with epic action, pleasingly brutal combat, and some difficult choices.” If a new tease is anything to go by, we could have another Dying Light game on the way.

As reported by Eurogamer, Techland has seemingly put out the feelers to gauge the interest on a potential Dying Light 3. Franchise director Tymon Smetała took to Twitter to write, “This is not [a] Dying Light 3 announcement. But - we were chatting today, overseeing last details for the Gut Feeling update (three days to go!) and we couldn't agree more, so please help. If we do DL3, [which] would you be the most excited if the main hero was (as a profession)?”
Fans could then vote for ‘just a survivor’, a ‘nightrunner’, a pilgrim, or a ‘GRE agent (turned good)’. The latter option won the poll with 42.8% of the vote. Survivor then came in second, with nightrunner in third and pilgrim in fourth. In total, 5,921 fans took part in the vote. Smetała may have said this isn’t a Dying Light 3 announcement, but it clearly shows that the possibility of the game is being actively discussed - and that’s very good news.

The previously-mentioned Gut Feeling update is actually out today. The update is said to feature “major combat and physics improvements” allowing players to dismember zombies in a variety of new ways.
