So, it’s been a full week now since the release of Dying Light 2. In that time, as well as a whole load of zombies getting their butts handed to them, a whole load of references have been discovered (including a really neat one to the Resident Evil series), and believe it or not, given the sheer length of the game, it’d still be completely impossible to have experienced it all even if you’d not slept since launch. Which you’re not advised to do, by the way, or you might become a zombie yourself.
Anyway, while we’ve been all taken up with one zombie game, you’ve probably not been giving too much thought to Techland’s other undead survival horror, Dead Island, or more specifically, its sequel (which isn't actually being developed by Techland, but more on that later). At this point, you’d be forgiven for thinking that it just wasn’t happening, but think again, because not only is it being actively worked on, but it could be out very soon, according to one prominent insider.
Check out the official announcement trailer for Dead Island 2 below.
Tom Henderson, who’s been known to get many other leaks spot-on in the past, recently published a video on his YouTube channel to give an update on the game: “Yes, the game is in development, and apparently, according to everyone that I’ve been speaking to these past couple of hours, the game is actually in a decent state,” he said. “It could be announced pretty soon with some kind of gameplay trailer, with a release date expected to be somewhere in Q4 2022, possibly leading up to next year if there is any problems with the development cycle.”
In case you’re unfamiliar, Dead Island 2 has been facing a very lengthy and turbulent development - it was first announced way back in 2014, originally being produced by Yager Development, before Sumo Digital took over in 2016. Since then, yet another studio took the reins - it’s currently Dambuster Studios who are tasked with finally bringing this long-awaited title over the finish line. If Henderson’s information is true, though, it sounds like we might not be waiting too long - let’s just hope the game itself is actually good after all this.
