Daniel Kaluuya to play a Spider-Man in upcoming movie

It's been confirmed that the Get Out and Black Panther star will be voicing Spider-Punk in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

If you’re not hyped for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, you definitely should be. The sequel to 2018’s phenomenal Into the Spider-Verse is coming next year, and will see Miles Morales team up with a whole new bunch of Spidey friends from across the multiverse.

Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld are set to reprise their roles as Miles and Spider-Gwen respectively, and as The Hollywood Reporter writes, it’s now been confirmed that Daniel Kaluuya, the English actor well known for his roles in Black Panther, Nope, and Get Out, will be joining the web-slinging team as the voice of Hobart Brown, AKA Spider-Punk.

Before we get into it, take a look at the trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 below.

Spider-Punk was first introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man comics in 2015, but his appearance in Across the Spider-Verse will be his on-screen debut. For a little background info (courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter), Hobart Brown is a homeless teenager, who in his universe, ends up becoming a hero for the oppressed people in New York.

The movie, which is the second instalment of the Spider-Verse trilogy, is currently set to release on 2 June 2023. It’s being directed by Justin K. Thompson, Kemp Powers and Joaquim Dos Santos, with Phil Lord, Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Christina Steinberg and Chris Miller producing.

In other Spidey news, Insomniac Games recently re-confirmed the release window for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The game, which will feature both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, is still set to swing onto PS5 in 2023 - the devs reassured fans that the lack of trailers doesn’t mean they need to worry about it being delayed, as they’re “making good progress” and “showing games takes time, effort, resources, and coordination”. So, there's plenty to be excited for next year for Spider-Man fans, then.
