Is there a game in existence with a stronger redemption arc than Cyberpunk 2077? I’d argue not. CD Projekt Red’s ambitious title launched in 2020 as a bug-ridden mess yet here we are in the Cyberpunk 2077 renaissance. Earlier this year, CD Projekt finally launched the title’s major new-gen update and the game started living up to its potential.
Since then, the release of Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has seen the game’s playerbase skyrocket. Just last week, Cyberpunk 2077 overtook Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II to become the best-selling game on Steam and now, one developer has come forward to share how emotional the comeback experience has been.

During a recent Twitch stream (via GamesRadar), quest director Paweł Sasko opened up about Cyberpunk 2077’s recent success. Sasko said, “It’s hard to express when you’re putting so much heart and soul into something, and for some of us it’s been six, seven, eight years sometimes, especially for those who started at the very beginning, so to have this moment of people liking something that we did, it’s really feeling a bit unreal that finally people are appreciating it.”
Sasko touched on the lows as well as the recent highs. “After the release, I couldn't believe - after some time, I did - but at the beginning I couldn't believe [it],” Sasko said. “I remember [...] my dear girlfriend, she was seeing me f**king completely wrecked. But it's good to be back. It's f**king good to be back. That was really so heartbreaking."

Cyberpunk 2077 is undoubtedly back. The game’s concurrent player count recently surpassed the all-time peak of CD Projekt’s golden child The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. That’s something to be proud of.
