Without question, Cyberpunk 2077 has been a story of a video game rising from the ashes to achieve great success.
We all know by now that when Cyberpunk 2077 initially launched for PC, PS4 and Xbox One in December 2020 it was a bit of a mess, at least on consoles. In fact, Sony deemed CD Projekt RED’s sci-fi RPG to be so bad that it refused to sell Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS Store. However, it did return several months later in a somewhat better state.

Yet, it wasn't until the new-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 was released in February 2022 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S that things began to drastically improve. Followed by a series of major content updates, Cyberpunk 2077 is now pretty much the game we were promised it would be all those years ago.

Earlier this year, the highly anticipated expansion Phantom Liberty was finally released to high critical acclaim on Metacritic. In our review of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, our own Ewan Moore said: “I really can’t say enough good things about Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. It fills me with joy to be able to report that this is a deeply ambitious expansion that fires on all cylinders and never delivers anything less than a stellar experience. CD Projekt RED is walking away from Cyberpunk 2077 in the best possible way, delivering on the game’s immense potential and dropping one final, unforgettable adventure.”
Up until now, (though you’ll have to wait a couple more weeks), Cyberpunk 2077 and the Phantom Liberty expansion were only available digitally. So if you’ve been holding out for a physical copy, you won't be waiting much longer. CD Projekt RED will be releasing Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition which not only includes the base game but also Phantom Liberty and all the updates ready to go loaded on disc.

“Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is an open-world RPG containing two powerful adventures: the base game of Cyberpunk 2077, taking place in the dark future of Night City, and Phantom Liberty, a spy-thriller story set in the walled-off district of Dogtown,” reads the press release from CD Projekt. “Players take on the role of V, a cyber-enhanced mercenary, and embark on a fight for survival filled with story-defining decisions, action-packed gameplay, and unforgettable characters, including rockerboy Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) and FIA sleeper agent Solomon Reed (played by Idris Elba).”
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will be released for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 5 December 2023.
