We’re in the endgame now - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is launching in just over a week’s time. In fact, from today (20 October), anyone who’s pre-purchased or preordered the game digitally will be able to access the campaign early.
It’s thanks to this that we’ve now learned the install size of the game, and it’s surprisingly compact. Twitter user @PlaystationSize has discovered that the base game on PS5 takes up just 36.201GB of storage space. Compared to the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which as Game Rant writes, takes up over 200GB of space, it’s been sized down significantly, which is good news for everyone (especially those without any extended storage on their console).
While you’re here, take a look at some third-person Modern Warfare II gameplay below.
Apparently, there are two campaign packs to download, which take up around 8GB of space each. The multiplayer download comes in just short of 5GB, while co-op requires a measly 2.619GB. There’s also a download for Warzone 2, oddly, which suggests that it could be available to MWII players as an additional download rather than a completely separate one. It’s tiny, anyway, at just 2.541GB.
On PS4, the base file size is only marginally different, at 35.490GB, but each individual pack takes up significantly more space than they do on the PS5. The first campaign pack is around 7GB, with the second taking up 11.598GB. Multiplayer takes up around 5.5GB, while co-op is just over 3GB. Finally, the Warzone 2 pack, whatever that is, is just less than 3GB.

All in all, it looks like anyone downloading the game on release day won’t have to sit around too long before they can get in on the action. Again, early campaign access should be available today, depending on your time zone. It’s definitely worth checking if it’s already live for you.
