The arrival of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is nearly upon us as the excitement builds for the next entry in the ever-popular series.
As of right now, a multiplayer beta is taking place for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III which gives players an early opportunity to sample some of its maps and modes. When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III launches next month, it will include 16 remastered maps from MW2 (2009).

As the name of this game suggests, this Call of Duty entry is set in a modern era. So it would be safe to assume that it won't include futuristic gadgets and weaponry, right? Well, you might be wrong and some fans are not happy.

Having futuristic weapons in a time-period Call of Duty game is nothing new. After all, 2019’s Call of Duty: Vanguard, which is set during World War II, featured the futuristic AS44 blueprint. Heck, this is the same game that featured rapper Snoop Dogg as an Operator, as well as appearing in other entries. Futuristic weapons, gadgets and oddball Operators featured in any Call of Duty game should come as no surprise.
“Sledgehammer, please do not add futuristic guns to the game, for everyone's sake,” pleaded Redditor MikeJon45 kicking off the discussion on the thread.
“Please Sledgehammer Games, do not. Do not transform that game into a goofy shooter like you started to do with the last season of Vanguard,” they continued. “And remove the goofy laser sights (the same ones that were in Vanguard), they just look stupid and out of place, just put the classic laser sights like we have in MWII (2022).”
“They don’t care if it looks stupid. They care about money for sure and this will sell skins,” replied alfiesred47. “There are already leaks that some guns from Advanced Warfare are coming to the game. Data miners even found Weapon Camo mastery challenges for them. Slated for season three,” claimed Skiepher referring to a rumour currently making the rounds.

Much of the thread was against futuristic weapons being in the game, but not everyone. “It’s genuinely not that serious. CoD is a goofy game and if these guns make the game more fun then I‘m all for it,” said yetistic. “I’ll take the heat but… I like some of those futuristic guns lol. But I get how they don’t fit the setting,” GiantTurtleWave replied.
At the end of the day, we all know for a fact that futuristic weapons, gadgets and skins are coming to the next Call of Duty, whether we like it or not. There’s nothing any of us can do about it, especially as it makes Activision money.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will be released on 10 November 2023 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
