Call of Duty fans are losing it over an apparent leak regarding the next entry in the series, Modern Warfare IV.
Regarding sales numbers, not many video game properties garner the numbers quite like Activision’s Call of Duty series. Since the first game arrived in 2003, we’ve been treated to a new entry almost every year (except in 2004) with nearly each new release selling more copies than the last.
Check out the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 trailer below!
What’s more, while it may have a dent in sales going forward (only time will tell), more players are likely going to be playing Call of Duty now that Microsoft owns Activision which will likely see the entire series come to Xbox Game Pass in the coming months.

It’s fair to say that when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III was released in 2023, at least when it came to its single-player campaign, it had missed the mark like a stray bullet. However, the series was back on track the following year with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Now we’re well into 2025, it’s only a matter of time until the next game is revealed with many expecting it to be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare IV and if this apparent leak is to be believed, fans have every reason to be excited.
Before we proceed, please be advised that the information below may involve spoilers for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare IV (2025).
As shared in a Reddit post by user TheEternalGazed (via Vondyispog), as many would expect, Modern Warfare IV will be a continuation of MWIII and will tell the tale of Task Force 141 working alongside the SAS, Demon Dogs and the United States Marine Corps.

The story will also feature the aftermath of Vladimir Makarov’s actions following Modern Warfare III (2023) and his “inner circle” with the Russian Federation and South Korea is said to play a big role in some way. Furthermore, it’s claimed that it will take place in the not-so-distant future
It’s also said that Modern Warfare IV will have plenty of shocking moments and a “much darker tone” than its predecessors with its terrorism themes and by the looks of things, it will have a connection to the Black Ops series.
If MWIV were to have a darker tone, that’s saying something for this series which has pushed the boundaries of controversy with its method of storytelling over the years.
“It’s good to see that the campaign will return to the grounded nature and grittiness of MW (2019),” replied Bolt_995.

“I mean if they're gonna keep the two series connected, I'm glad they would address BOII tech by making it more apparent. At least make the world-building consistent and meaningful,” said Always_A_Dreamer556.
“Infinity Ward gets a lot of crap for its multiplayer and seeming unwillingness to listen to player feedback but I’m always down for its campaigns and truth be told, I don’t mind its “boots on the ground” approach,” exclaimed Fluxaboo. “I’m excited to see where this goes.”
As you might expect, there is also a lot of scepticism in the thread with many fans being bored of the Call of Duty formula. That being said, this leak is unconfirmed and should be taken with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.
We’ll keep you posted when the next Call of Duty is officially announced which could take place during this year's Summer Game Fest 2025 at an Xbox Games Showcase.
