Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will gobble up over 200GB of your storage

If you want to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, with all the bells and whistles turned on, the install size is enormous. This thing is so big it will take up a significant portion of any console SSD.

According to the game's minimum requirements on PC, you'll need at least 213GB of SSD space.

Now, there is something to note here. That download size is for everything - all game modes, swish graphics, the lot. As with previous games you can choose what to install and the game comes within several content packs. This means if you only want to play the campaign and don't care for the fancy graphics, your download will be 79GB, which is the bare minimum.

It kind of became a bit of a joke that Modern Warfare 2 was so gigantic, but it's now an unfortunate part of modern games. This is not only taking up a vast amount of space on your SSD, but your bandwidth is going to get smashed. Even on a reasonable internet connection, this beast is going to take a long time to download.

If this is the way that games are going it's going to be troubling a couple of years from now; if every AAA game starts to set a precedent with file sizes then bigger SSDs, which will cost a lot more, will become the norm. It's not a complaint, these games are often worth it and are generally pushing out the boat in visual quality, but for gamers with fewer pennies in their pocket, this could become an issue.

Anyway, if you want to play the latest Call of Duty, you'll need hundreds of gigabytes spare, so maybe it's best to start looking at what you want to delete now.
