It’s oft-declared that the video game adaptation curse has been broken.
You can see why. From Prime Video’s Fallout to HBO’s The Last of Us, we’ve been blessed in recent years.
That being said, I find myself wholly dubious about the upcoming Borderlands film, set to release very soon on 9 August.

Borderlands boasts an impressive cast, including Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
And yet, the promotional materials released thus far reveal what feels like a pastiche of Borderlands, rather than a film that intrinsically understands the franchise.
I’ll withhold judgement, of course, until the film is released but I can’t say I’m overly hyped.
Borderlands 4 though, that’s something I’m itching to hear about - and as it happens, a fresh tease has just landed.

ICYMI: We played snog, marry, irradiate with the cast of Fallout.
We’ve known for some time that a new Borderlands instalment is in active development, but that’s about the extent of it.
Both Gearbox and 2K have kept a tight lid on things but franchise boss Randy Pitchford has just provided a crumb of an update.

In an interview with GamesRadar, Pitchford confirmed that a Borderlands announcement is due to drop very soon.
“I haven't been perfect at hiding the fact that we're working on many things, and that we're working on big things," Pitchford said.
"I’m confident that our fans are going to be very, very happy with the next video game project when we are ready to announce it. And I will tell you that we’re not going to be making people wait for a long time before we announce it.”
Gamescom’s Opening Night Live feels a tad too soon … The Game Awards perhaps? That’s only four months away.

Pitchford added that a second Borderlands film could be announced “before the end of the year”, although that presumably depends on the reception to the initial instalment.
Naturally, we’ll be keeping a weather eye on any and all Borderlands updates.
