The closest thing we’ll likely ever get to an official Bloodborne sequel has just been announced, and fans aren’t taking the news well.
Yesterday afternoon, FromSoftware announced a brand new game during the Nintendo Direct presentation for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Anyone even vaguely familiar with Bloodborne had the same reaction during the opening minute of the trailer; whatever this is looks a hell of a lot like Bloodborne 2.

Turns out, nope, it’s actually a game called The Duskbloods, but you’d be forgiven for assuming otherwise (especially once the “FromSoftware” logo popped up halfway through).
It really does just look like some kind of spiritual successor or legally distinct version of Bloodborne, right down to the clothing, the oddly specific references to blood and the phases of the moon, and the focus on firearms.
Take a look at the new trailer below.
Over on the r/bloodborne subreddit, reactions to the trailer for The Duskbloods are decidedly mixed.

"FromSoft game about vampires in a Victorian gothic setting?" commented user Sythin, "This is Bloodborne 2 without the Bloodborne name."
“Mixed feelings about this tbh,” replied user M10-Dru.
“Not much combat gameplay shown. Not the usual hype story-cinematic either. Idk how I feel about a Bloodborne successor being a Nintendo exclusive. I hope it ends up being good tho.”
A lot of people were a bit more hyped about the game immediately following the announcement, but this died down just as fast once we learned some more info about the game.

That’s because, as stated on FromSoftware’s Japanese website, The Duskbloods is a "PvPvE-based multiplayer action game in which up to eight players can fight each other and against enemies”.
Yup, unfortunately, this is no Bloodborne 2. It’s actually more like Escape From Tarkov with a Victorian setting.
Well, on the plus side, at least those of you who aren’t planning on buying a Nintendo Switch 2 won’t have to experience the FOMO.
