Black Myth Wukong's story is based on the classic 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West, which can be briefly summarised as a monkey king named Sun Wukong on an adventure for extraordinary power, which he then used to challenge the Taoist gods.
Aside from the standard hack-and-slash, perfectly timed combat, players will also wield incredible powers and abilities, including the power to shape-shift into different creatures. These include a giant hulking monster and a flying insect. These will likely have applications in combat, as well as exploring the world for collectables.
The open world will also boast its own set of secrets and collectables to help the player on their quest. As for the new gameplay, the trailer showcased the main character, Sun Wukong, exploring a beautifully crafted environment and taking on colossal enemies that looked like they'd just stepped out of Elden Ring. Gameplay is a mix of fast-paced dodging, blocking, deflecting and striking when the opponent is most vulnerable.
Players will likely need to observe their enemy carefully and wait for the right moment before rushing in for an attack, adding strategic depth to the gameplay.
