Fans of the Bioshock series are in for further disappointment after one ArtStation profile reveals we might not get Bioshock 4 until 2028.
First released in 2007, Bioshock was the first in a retrofuturistic video game series created by Ken Levine. Followed by Bioshock 2 in 2010 and later Bioshock Infinite in 2013, it has been a long wait for the next instalment which was confirmed to be in development back in 2019. With no sign of a release date since then, fans are eagerly waiting. However, a recent find has revealed they may have to wait a lot longer.
Check out the Bioshock Infinite launch trailer below!
According to ArtStation’s Mack Sztaba, Senior Concept Artist at Cloud Chamber, Bioshock 4 is scheduled for release in 2028. The artist who has previously worked on Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse and The Umbrella Academy, has been working on the Bioshock project for 6 months according to his Linkedin page. It also appears as though he is working under Scott Sinclair who was the art director for both Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite.

Since development was first announced in 2019, not much information about Bioshock 4 has been revealed. Past rumours have claimed that it will be set in Antarctica and will be much larger in scale to its predecessors. In 2021, the Cloud Chamber’s careers page hinted at the fourth instalment being “an open-world adventure” and will feature “character-driven stories”. There was also mention of the game featuring side-quests which will be a lot different from the Bioshock series’ usual linear gameplay.
More recently in 2022, one insider revealed that Bioshock 4 was reportedly going through some developmental issues. So much so, that the game was currently undergoing its fourth reboot as a result of poor management.
Whether the 2028 release date is just a placeholder or will actually be when we can expect the title to launch, it still appears we have a long wait ahead of us.
